Spot The Difference: A Busy Year Of Maintenance at SGS

Update on recent school site improvements and reinvestment
27 Sep 2024
Alumni News

Over the last year, the School has been undergoing a number of maintenance projects as part of our aim for continuous improvement of the site. Much of this work has taken place during the Summer holidays to minimise disruption and we are sure pupils and teaching staff will be pleased to see some of the wonderful changes as they return to school in September.

Here is a list of just some of the ways we have continued to invest and improve the School:

The Quad Area
We were delighted to recently see our quad area return to all its glory after being hidden away behind scaffolding for a large part of the academic year. This was due to essential roof repair work which has now been complete. Over Summer, some new picnic benches have also been added to the quad to allow for pupils and staff to make better use of this space which is very much at the heart of the school:

Exams Office & Science Corridors
The leaking roof above the Hallam Building inevitably led to some repair work being required in corridors below and in particular around the Exams Office. This work has been carried out alongside some painting of the corridors to bring them to life.

Central Toilets
A full remodelling and refurbishment of the central toilets.

A grand opening of the toilets is planned for later on this term.

Woodsmoor Building Exterior
Picnic benches added to the staff-only area to provide a wonderful space to be used for lesson planning and preparation, collaborative sessions or even to enjoy a quiet moment in the fresh air during breaktimes.

The terrace area outside Woodsmoor has seen a refurbishment of the patio, benches and most excitingly, the new addition of a table tennis table!

Main Hall
Scaffolding is currently in place for roof repairs and internally the main hall floor has received a much need sand and re-polish which has vastly improved the hall and created a much lighter space. Stair carpets have also been replaced after years of wear and tear and new seats have been installed.

Whilst the scaffolding is still up as the roof work continues, the Main Hall now looks brilliant after its refresh.

Junior School Inner Courtyard
The junior school inner courtyard has seen some super improvements with a refurbishment of the patio area and the addition of picnic benches to make this a more usable space:

Swimming Pool Roof Repair

Repair work to the roof of the swimming pool is ongoing and is due for completion in early Autumn.

New bag racks have also been installed, a number of classrooms have been painted with new carpets placed and a number of corridors have been re-polished within the Hallam building.

We are extremely grateful to our fantastic Site Services, Maintenance and Grounds teams for all of their hard work in co-ordinating these projects which make a significant difference to both pupils and staff members.
