Held every two years, the Careers Convention hosts stalls from universities and employers to help students make decisions about their future.
This year we had a great turnout with 76 delegates representing 21 universities and 40 companies including engineering, medicine, consultancy, journalism, VFX and policing to name a few.
Thanks go out to our speakers who delivered interesting talks on topics from medicine to accountancy. Current parents Dr Susan Moore and Professor Jenny Myers led talks on becoming a GP and working in Obstetrics and Maternal Medicine respectively and Matthew Leigh spoke about his role as Apprentice Support and Knowledge at the Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network (GMLPN).
Old Stopfordians Alice Dullehan (OS 2015), Matt Taylor (OS 2016) and Isabella Byrne (OS 2022) also spoke about their career paths. Alice is a Pharmacist and final year medical student at Swansea University, Matt is a Senior National Account Manager at Britvic and Isabella, who left SGS last year, returned to speak about her apprenticeship with AstraZeneca.
The event took place across the school site; with university and employer stands in the Dining Hall and the Sixth Form Common Room housing medical stalls.
Many Old Stopfordians also ran stalls at the event including our Old Stopfordian President, Mrs Krishanthi Carfrae, who is a Chartered Landscape Architect and Chartered Town Planner who leads the Cities Advisory and Economics team across the North West and Yorkshire for Arup.
Careers Co-ordinator Mrs Helen Tadman said: “Our biennial Careers Convention, which is for Fourth Year, Fifth Year and Sixth Form pupils and their parents, was incredibly well attended and there were representatives from many different fields. Many of our speakers commented on how our pupils asked interesting and relevant questions to find out about what they did.
“We have received positive feedback from many pupils and parents about the evening and hope it will have inspired many of them to think about their future options.”
