On Saturday 27th June, over 300 Old Stops’ and their families returned to school for the 2026 Summer Reunion BBQ. Old Stops’ in attendance ranged from members of the Class of 1957 to our newest cohort, the Class of 2026.
Attendees travelled from as far as Tasmania to catch up with former classmates, teachers and fellow alumni, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.
A particular highlight of the reunion was the annual Martin Argument Cup, a cricket match established in memory of Martin Argument (OS 1988), a much-loved school friend who sadly passed away in 2020.
The fixture, which has become a cherished tradition, is contested between the Old Stops’ Class of 1988 and The Cavaliers, a team for whom Martin played over many years. The match serves not only as a competitive sporting occasion but also as a fitting tribute to Martin’s enduring friendship, sportsmanship and contribution to both teams.
The Martin Argument Cup is organised by James Stewart (OS 1988), whose dedication has helped ensure that Martin’s memory continues to be honoured through the sport he loved. Thanks to James’s efforts, the annual fixture has become a focal point of the reunion calendar and a meaningful way for friends and former teammates to stay connected.
The Cavaliers clinch this year’s title tying them with the OS 1988 team at two wins each.
Players and spectators gathered for the BBQ, where conversations continued long into the afternoon. Old photographs and shared memories helped create a true reunion atmosphere, reminding everyone of the special bonds formed during their time at SGS.
The event was a wonderful celebration of community, friendship and remembrance, bringing together past and present members of the school family. For many attendees, the day was about more than simply returning to their old school—it was an opportunity to honour a friend, reconnect with classmates and create new memories that will be treasured for years to come.
