Our very own Sharon Withington, who retired at the end of this academic year after 27 years at SGS, was invited to share her recent cancer battle on the GPs Talk Cancer podcast by GatewayC after being diagnosed in 2024 with ovarian cancer.

GatewayC is the leading early cancer diagnosis resource, providing free educational tools to primary care professionals. The podcast is hosted by Dr Sarah Taylor and Dr Rebecca Leon, both practicing GPs in the Manchester Area and GP Leads for GatewayC.

The GPs Talk Cancer podcast is designed as an educational tool for primary healthcasre professionals to benefit from patients journeys, thoughts and feelings. Throughout the podcast, Sharon talks of her struggle to be taken seriously by primary care professionals when she first presented to her GP with symptoms. Advising how she would have like to have been contacted and checked in on by her GP during her diagnosis and treatment journey.

Miss Withington retired in July 2026 after 27 years of teaching PE at Stockport Grammar School. We wish her all the best in her next chapter and look forward to welcoming her back to school as an ambasador of all things SGS.
