We were delighted to welcome back Old Stopfordians, governors and guests for the annual Founder’s Day dinner on Friday 18th March in the delightful surroundings of the Hallam Hall.
You can now view the photographs from the event here.
The four course meal, provided by Old Stopfordian and Director of GL Event Services Ltd, Gaz Edwards (OS 2000), brought together Old Stopfordians' from all generations.
Old Stopfordian, Archivist and Master of Ceremonies, Mr Stuart Helm (OS 1964), proposed an insightful toast to the school and the pious founder.
Senior School Headmaster, Dr Paul Owen, responded on behalf of the school with dry humour.
Old Stopfordian Charlotte Garvey (OS 1994) proposed the toast to Old Stopfordians and the President, Clare Francis (OS 1994), recollecting on how their friendship grew unexpectedly and on many of the highlights along the way.
The President’s response was enjoyed by all, noted with humour, humility and inspiration.
Reflecting on the evening, Clare Francis noted:
I felt like Dumbledore last night! I love everything Stockport Grammar School does to help keep former pupils connected and up-to-date with what’s happening at the school. Planning my speech for last night’s dinner brought back lots of memories and it was great to go back to school and reminisce.
Our thanks to everyone who joined us for a delightful evening - this event cannot go ahead without the support of the Old Stopfordian Community. Thank you also to all those involved in providing such a wonderful event including our speakers, our pupil musicians; Nicholas Othen, Charlie Harrison, Brian Liu, Ella Moran and Mr Newlove for the arrangements, GL Event Services Ltd for the bar and catering, our Catering Manager Mrs Gosling for opening the kitchens in support of the cooks and the SGS Caretaking Team, in particular Mr Slingsby.
We will be hosting our next Stopfordian Committee Meeting on Monday 4th April to discuss your thoughts and feedback from this event - please join us if you can, or alternatively please send us your feedback to the External Relations Team at externalrelations@stockportgrammar.co.uk.
