Another from the treasure chest of archives here that may be of interest to any sailing enthusiasts amongst our Old Stops community.
The story, as we understand, is that this photo was taken at Easter time in 1953, on what was possibly the first school sailing trip. This took place on the Norfolk Broads and was organised by members of SGS staff, Paul Granville and Peter Brown, along with the support of the Head at the time, F H Philpot.
Five Broads cruisers were chartered with SGS staff skippering four of the five and pupils Brian Oldham and David Morter skippering the fifth.
The trip was a great success and instilled a continued passion for sailing in many pupils who attended. It became an annual event in the school calendar although was moved from Norfolk to Salcombe in Devon.
We hope this evokes some fond memories from those that enjoyed sailing trips during their time here at SGS. We would love to hear of your memories.
