Old Stopfordians' Ollie Mills (OS 2012) and Alex Cosgriff (OS 2014) debuted the new concert version of 'Mallory On The Mountain' at The Lowry on Wednesday 19th October.

‘Mallory On The Mountain’ is a new British stage musical produced by Imaginality Productions, which was Founded by composer, theatre maker and artistic director, Ollie, in 2021 and is co-run by actor, singer and theatre maker, Alex. 

The musical is based on the life of British Climber George Mallory and his ill-fated attempt to conquer Mount Everest in 1924.  Spectators will witness the gripping true story of George Mallory and his journey from the small town of Mobberley to the heights of Mount Everest. As he battles the perishing cold with his trusted companion, Sandy Irvine, George relives the pivotal chapters of his life that led him to this fateful moment.

The book, music & lyrics have been produced by Ollie Mills (OS 2012) himself.

Music from the show debuted in The Lowry’s October 2021 Rewrites festival, before receiving its first full workshop at Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre, supported by Arts Council England.

This concert version of the musical featured Alex Cosgriff (OS 2014) as George Mallory, leading an ensemble of West End professionals, directed by Ollie Mills.

Alongside ‘Mallory On The Mountain’ Ollie and Alex are set to launch the production “Realms of Glory” which is set during the Manchester Blitz of 1940 at the new 53two Theatre in Manchester City Centre.  The production will be showing in December with tickets on sale soon at www.53two.com

About Ollie Mills (OS 2012)

Ollie is a Composer & Director from Manchester, with 11 years experience working in music and the wider arts world. He trained at The University Of York, specialising in Vocals, Composing & Conducting. Ollie premiered his first stage musical, The Tree Of War, in 2014, to mark the centenary of the Great War; a project co-written with writer and frequent collaborator Rachel Mann, with whom he is now developing Realms Of Glory. 

As a composer, he has written in a wide range of genres, with his work appearing on TV, in regional theatre, concerts and numerous online platforms; whilst also frequently taking commissions as a songwriter and choral arranger. 

In other walks of life, Ollie works in music education and as a vocal animateur. Find out more here.

About Alex Cosgriff (OS 2014)

Alex is an actor, singer and theatre maker from Manchester represented by David Ball Management, who after obtaining a degree in English Literature and Theatre from the University of Sheffield, went on to train in professional acting at the Oxford School of Drama.

As well as regularly performing with Imaginality Productions, some notable credits include West End Cabaret Hopelessly Devoted to Me, new Manchester based musical The Rise by Graham Lappin, Adam in Small at Soho Theatre London, Caliban in The Tempest at the Pendley Shakespeare Festival, the 2017 and 2018 UK Tours of The Iconoclasts and the multi-award winning Buried.

His passions are theatre, Manchester City and dogs (not necessarily in that order).
