Former Netball Captain Beth Taylor (OS 2020) is running 100 miles in April to fundraise to participate in a Netball coaching programme in Zambia to enhance the sport's development in the country and develop young people's leadership and life skills.

Beth tells us

In the month of April I will be running a total of 100 miles to fundraise for my trip to Zambia in summer. In July I will be travelling to Zambia for 6 weeks; coaching netball to young girls and developing their coaches with the aim to create a sustainable system of coaches to continue the sport’s development in the country.

Beth's passion for Netball began at Stockport Grammar School where she was heavily involved in the sport and was the Sixth Form Netball Captain in 2019/2020.  Beth is now reading Natural Sciences at Durham University where she is also President of Hild Bede College's Netball Club and Captain of the 3rd team.

The Netball development programme has been put together by Volunteer Zambia with the principal aim of working with Sport in Action to establish countrywide sustainable sport programmes that empower communities and provide pathways for young Zambians in participation, leadership and life skills.

Through the programme around 50-60 students and staff volunteers from the Wallace Group Universities in the UK join forces with Sport in Action to deliver sustainable sport for young people in some of Zambia’s poorest communities annually to encourage and empower women and girls.

If you would like to support Beth's participation in the programme you can donate to the cause here.
