Producing coverage for one of the world’s fastest-paced sports is a tough job, but someone has to do it. And that someone is Tim Glass (OS 1998) who has more than 20 years’ experience in live sports broadcasting and a BAFTA to show for it.

After leaving SGS, Tim went on to study Broadcast Journalism at the University of Leeds. A 20-year career at Sky Sports followed, with Tim working his way from being a runner to Senior Producer on Formula One. It was his team’s coverage of the 2021 F1 season that earned him a BAFTA along with his Sky and F1 colleagues.

“It was such an iconic season,” Tim said. “Lewis Hamilton vs Max Verstappen, Mercedes v Red Bull and the whole season came down to the final lap of the final race. It was live sport at its most controversial and compelling best. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time for one of F1’s most memorable years… and as Senior Producer I was lucky enough to get my own BAFTA to take home!"

Two years ago, Tim switched from working for a broadcaster to work for a sport as Broadcast and Content Director for Formula E – the highest class of racing for electric-powered cars.

Tim is responsible for the international feed that broadcasts the racing coverage across the world, the English Language presentation show and their Originals projects and documentaries.

“I love working for Formula E,” added Tim. “I was privileged to work at Sky for two decades and now I’ve been able to take that experience into an exciting challenge. It’s a broader role where we’re trying to grow a sport and raise global awareness. It has its challenges but it’s really exciting and special to be part of.’’

“I have also had have the opportunity to bring my wife and children along to a race or two which has already made for some amazing memories.”

When asked what advice Tim would give to aspiring journalists and broadcasters, Tim said: “Go for it. Your goals aren’t as unattainable as you think, but you have to make it happen as no-one will hand it to you.”

The Formula E season will begin again in December.
