Congratulations to Old Stopfordian and award-winning artist Kate O'Brien (OS 2000) who is one of two Old Stopfordians to win 'The Stockport Award' for contributions to Stockport at the Stockport Business Awards.
'The Stockport Award' was also won by Grassroots Recruitment, co-founded by fellow Old Stopfordian Caroline Patten (OS 2002).
Talking about the Award, Kate noted:
What an absolutely fantastic evening at the Stockport Business Awards. Well done everyone, and keep supporting our marvellous town!!
Thanks so much for all your lovely comments! So the award I was shortlisted for, The Stockport Award was won by the brilliant Grassroots Recruitment but I was then presented with a special “extra” award which was in recognition of my “contributions to Stockport” So I’m pretty chuffed with that!
In 2021 Kate also won a Highly Commended Award for 'Most promising young business'.
Congratulations to both Kate and Caroline on these very well deserved awards!
About Kate O'Brien
Kate is an artist who loves using vibrant colour to create completely unique renditions of cherished architecture; from the City Hall to your own home.
After studying Textile Art at university, Kate began to teach art at secondary school alongside producing her own work. After 10 years in education Kate made the decision to become a full time artist, specialising in instantly recognisable mixed media work, which includes vibrant ink, watercolours and tea staining which contrasts strong imagery with soft bleeding colour. Being based in Stockport, but having grown up in Derbyshire, Kate takes great inspiration from both the dramatic natural beauty of the landscape and the solid architectural forms which surround her.
Kate offers a bespoke service, in which customers can order artwork depicting an image with personal meaning for them. House, wedding venue and pet portraits are particularly popular.
You can also find Kate in her shop/studio inside Stockport Market Hall on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays or you can visit her website: https://kate-obrien-art.myshopify.com
