Head of Senior School, Mrs Sarah Capewell said: “These are a superb set of A Level results and are a well-deserved reward for the hard work and determination shown by our pupils and the dedicated support offered by their teachers. Not only have they worked hard on their academic subjects, but have also benefited from the wide variety of opportunities at the school. We look forward to seeing the great things they will achieve as they take their next steps beyond SGS.”

At A Level, 47% of grades were at A* and A, and 90% at A* to C.

Four A*s secured Tuguldur Zolzaya’s place to study Chemistry at the University of Oxford. Tuguldur thanked his teachers, saying: “SGS really wants you to get to your full potential, and you’re supported and encouraged to apply to Oxbridge. And they prepared me well for the interview process. I’m excited for what happens next. I’m looking forward to meeting a lot more people and experiencing life in Oxford.” Alongside his A Levels, Tuguldur got fully involved in SGS’s super-curricular programme with the Maths and Physics Olympiads and Chemistry extension.

Anna Collins-Room said she was “really happy and so excited” to be going to Durham University to study English Literature following her three A*s and an A. Duke of Edinburgh Gold, the expedition in Snowdonia, and the Paris Music Tour are among the highlights of her time at SGS with her mum saying “she’s loved every minute”.

Hamza Noman as he is off to Queen Mary University of London to study Medicine after achieving an A* and two As. Hamza threw himself into activities, both in and out of the classroom, whilst at SGS. A footballer, Hamza also played as point guard for the school’s basketball team, completed the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award programme and took part in the Chemistry and Biology Olympiads. His A* was in Psychology so it is no surprise that he was involved in the department’s Aspire Club. He thanked everyone in the Psychology department for their help – especially Mr Buxton-Cope, the department’s Head.

Ayan Farooq joined SGS in the Junior School and, with an A* and two As, he is also now all set to study Medicine. He is looking forward to a career in which research and learning are a long term focus. He has especially enjoyed the Sixth Form and said “the amount of support you get for Medicine is a massive help”. A keen boxer out of school, Ayan has also completed Duke of Edinburgh at Gold level with SGS.

Head of School Raayan Akbar is looking forward to starting his degree apprenticeship with PWC, one of the world’s largest international accounting and professional services firms after achieving two A*s and an A. The next 4 years will see Raayan combine a ‘Flying Start’ degree in Business Accountancy at Manchester University with work at PWC. Raayan joined SGS at Year 2 in the Junior School. Raayan thanked his teachers at SGS for their support throughout his time at school. His success is even more remarkable because major spinal surgery and a serious infection just two years ago meant that Raayan spent five months of his Lower Sixth year studying at home with the help of his teachers.

Lucy Smith was “absolutely chuffed” with her one A* and three As and is very excited to study her favourite subject every day at Durham University – English Literature. The Deputy Head of School was massively involved in the musical side of the school and was an integral part of a number of ensembles. Lucy was thankful of the support of all of the staff and pupils, praising the generosity of the whole SGS community.

The newest Old Stops where welcomed into the Old Stops Community with with a totebag containing the latest issue of Old Stops' Review, an invitation to an exclusive event for the Class of 2024, a discount code for John Lewis to help them get all the necessary kit for living in a dorm, and their choice of an Old Stops tie or pin. We look forward to welcoming them to Old Stops events in the near future.

At GCSE, over 22% were at the top mark of 9 and 63% were at 9, 8 and 7. Cara Bell secured ten 9s and one 8 across her eleven GCSEs, a fantastic end to a year that also saw her delight audiences as Dandini in the school’s production of Cinderella. While talented linguist, Annabel Huxley achieved 9s in French, German and Spanish amongst her total of nine 9s and an 8. Read more about our GCSE results here.
